Diagnosis
Examination and X-ray. The dentist assesses whether the tooth can be saved and tells you the cost of treatment.
Anaesthesia and isolation

When is root canal treatment needed
Treatment is usually considered when:
- the tooth hurts on its own, at night, or reacts to hot and cold for a long time
- there is swelling or the tooth hurts when you bite
- the X-ray shows inflammation around the root
- the tooth was treated before and the infection has come back
Treatment may not be possible when:
- the tooth has a vertical crack through the root – it usually cannot be saved
- the tooth is so damaged that it cannot be rebuilt – then the dentist discusses extraction and replacing the gap

How much does root canal treatment cost?
The price depends on the number of canals and on whether it is first-time treatment or retreatment. First-time treatment under a microscope of a tooth with 1 canal costs 850 PLN, with 3 canals 1 450 PLN. Retreatment of 1 canal – 1 300 PLN. Rebuilding the tooth after treatment is priced separately.
Does root canal treatment hurt?
Treatment is done under local anaesthesia, so it usually does not hurt more than having a filling placed. After the procedure the tooth may be tender for a few days.
Why use a microscope in root canal treatment?
A microscope especially helps with retreatment, molars with canals that are hard to find, curved canals, removing broken instruments and sealing perforations. It also makes it easier to check whether the tooth is cracked.
Who treats root canals at LumiDent?

How many visits does root canal treatment take?
Usually one to three visits. The number depends on the number and shape of the canals and on the inflammation. Retreatment often takes more time, because the dentist first removes the old filling.
I have toothache – what should I do?
Call us or book an emergency (pain) visit online (280 PLN). The dentist will examine the tooth, give anaesthesia and remove the inflamed pulp, and plan further treatment for the following visits. We are open Monday to Saturday until 9 pm.
What is root canal retreatment?
It is treating a tooth again when the infection has come back after earlier root canal treatment. The dentist removes the old filling, and a broken instrument or post if needed, then cleans and fills the canals again.
Do I need a crown after root canal treatment?
A tooth after root canal treatment is more fragile. For back teeth the dentist often recommends a crown or an onlay; with a smaller cavity a filling is sometimes enough. The decision depends on the condition of the specific tooth.
Can I be treated under the NFZ (Polish public health insurance)?
LumiDent is a private clinic; treatment is paid according to the price list. You learn the cost before treatment starts. If you have private insurance that covers dental treatment, on request we will issue a document confirming the procedures and payment so you can claim a refund from your insurer.
